About SHB
Our Story:
In 1962, Mary Edna and Shelton Henderson owned the Shrunken Head Boutique in the beach town of Jacksonville, NC. In those days the Shrunken Head was a head shop that sold everything you could imagine from hippy paraphernalia to beach classics like bathing suits and pop classic LEVI jeans!
In 1969 the Shrunken Head Family packed up and headed away from the beach and to the Carolina Blue and bright Chapel Hill, NC. The Shrunken Head bumped it to Carolina Beach Music for a decade and a half while catering to Tar Heels with eclectic merchandise until 1982, when Michael Jordan and Dean Smith made Carolina Basketball the best thing to ever happen to NC. The Shrunken Head’s small section of Carolina merchandise took over the entire store after UNC Basketball won the NCAA Championship of 1982.
Since then the Shrunken Head has been devoted to providing a Carolina experience that makes UNC Alumni, students, and fans remember us as a MUST stop on Franklin Street. We uphold the UNC Game Day tradition of Tar Heel face tattoos and rivalry pins for all basketball and football home games.
